March 24

Lee and I head back to the airport to meet up with our ride to Imire. This was our first introduction to Paul, who with his wife, Bev, runs one of the three parts of Imire-Chiwawe (where we stayed), another volunteer section called Numwa, and the middle section, which was strictly for tourists.

A work in progress. They have a long way to go, but it's a start.

I guess I shoud explain why I chose a photo of me peeing in a random spot. I discovered during my week at Imire that I apparently have a bladder the size of a hummingbird's. "Stay hydrated!" is a mantra there. So I did. Every day, at each of our three chores/events/jobs, I was the ONLY person who had to find a spot and pee. It sounds easy until you realize that there are wild animals everywhere; squatting, alone, and with no pants on was not the way I intended to go out, although it would have been a great story. Regardless, I have dubbed myself the Prolific Pee Shooter of Imire, ZImbabwe.

Our home for the week. Sleeps four, but two people dropped out. We had it all to ourselves! Well, other than the family of mice running around on the roof all night, every night. And Theo. See below.

Meet Theo. He looks large....

...until you get a new perspective.

Theo would move about a foot each day. But, on the fifth day, he up and disappeared. It's a damn mystery. Wait, do mice eat whatever Theo is? And what the hell is this horned beast outside my tent?!

Tomorrow, we start the real work. This place is crazy. Just my speed.

A blast from the past. Seal singing his 90's hit, 'Crazy'
