For What It's Worth

Writer's picture: SheilaSheila

It's been a minute since I last wrote anything. It seems I couldn't bring myself to put fingers to keyboard and get on with it. In the interim, I've had a million thoughts flying around my brain; so many fascinating, funny, frightening, bizarre, and absurd thoughts. It was when these thoughts became a vortex, ideas spinning so fast that they couldn't be contained, pelting my poor brain cells like a sandstorm, that they spilled out to every square inch of my body, begging for release. Some things cannot be ignored.

So here I am. Trying to fathom what to say. So many words, so many topics...I'll just start simply.

Ukraine.

Simple, right?

I watch, as the vast majority of us do, in horror at the destruction, the devastation, the anguish. But I also see resolve, courage, hope. Have you read the lyrics of the national anthem of Ukraine? The native title is 'Shche ne vmerla Ukrainy’, which translates into English as ‘Ukraine Has Not Yet Perished’. You really need to read this-

The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians. Our enemies will die, as the dew does in the sunshine, and we, too, brothers, we'll live happily in our land.

We’ll not spare either our souls or bodies to get freedom and we’ll prove that we brothers are of Kozak kin.

That's a powerful message (other than the misogynistic parts). These people will fight with their bare hands and teeth if need be. They remind me of the Black Knight from 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail.' Tis but a scratch.

Any American who sees this invasion as anything other than an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation is either extraordinarily obtuse, ill-informed, or downright stupid. I find it unfathomable that anyone in this country could possibly believe otherwise, but here we are.

This is how I feel when someone starts yammering on about how they are experts on Russia and align with Putin because they studied Russian history in college 30 years ago. And Tucker Carlson told them to admire Putin. And Laura Ingraham said that President Zelensky was pathetic. And Trump said Putin's a genius.

Just wow. I got nothing else.

And this is how I feel when someone says they are experts regarding the oil industry because they own several petroleum stocks. Yes, someone actually said that to me. Dude, I own Disney stock, but that doesn't make me an expert on huge mice in cute clothing.

I'm already spinning with other thoughts so I'll keep it short, like me.

I wish Black Widow was a real person because she could absolutely infiltrate Putin's defenses and kill that motherfucker. Yeah, I said it. That evil piece of excrement needs to shuffle off this mortal coil. Fingers crossed.

I stand with Ukraine.
